Last week, as we were busy making miles back up the Caribbean chain, we decided to drop anchor for the night in Pigeon Island, Guadeloupe, one of our favorite snorkel spots in the Caribbean islands.
We were bummed to arrive too close to sundown to enjoy the Jacques Cousteau park this time (photos from our extended visit in Guadeloupe), but we did manage to eek out an hour of snorkeling in the bay with our new underwater camera. While diving the anchor, I ran smack into one of the biggest turtles I’ve ever seen. We hung out with him for a while, watching him graze on the ocean floor, stopping now and then to lazily bob back to the surface.
I could watch turtles do that all day long.
In addition to turtles, we were surprised to discover some pretty coral along the shoreline as well. It was a lovely, refreshing moment, sandwiched between two hot days at sea. Everyone should be this lucky.
