I love dogs, but Nico won’t let us have a one aboard, so I get extra excited when we run into our friends with dogs. I love playing with them.

Two of my favorite boat dogs currently cruising the Caribbean are Lulu of s/v Corpse Pounder and Snowy of s/v Discofish.

One evening last week, we were together and had the beach at Saline Bay in Mayreau all to ourselves. This meant that the dogs were free to play – their last chance before the Tobago Cays, which prohibits dogs on the beaches.

Snowy and Lulu are in love and it’s hysterical to see them in action. Snowy, the fluffball Schnauzer, tears around the beach, while Lulu, the doberman, lopes gently behind. They’re an unlikely pair. This evening, we were also joined by an adorable local potcake, who was less interested in playing and preferred to hang out with the humans and the food.

Cheers to the pure, exuberant joy that is dogs playing on a beach!
